Mr. Corbitt.P2 Conclusion

Mr. Corbitt.P2 Conclusion (Essie, Peter, Jimmy)

2pm Monday, March 10th, 1924: As Jimmy stood, he caught glimpse of the greenhouse, “Get me away from that!” He proceeded to tell the others about his dreamland experience.  Then he remembered, “Where’s my grenade and flare-gun?! That was no dream… it really happened!” As Jimmy emptied his winter coat of the plants he’d collected, Essie collected (with gloves on) the orange/purple flower as evidence for later study. Peter surmised the plants as the source of hallucinations experienced by Jimmy and the recipients of the Police Fund basket. “We still have the 3 vials collected from Randolph’s apartment. More evidence.” Peter told Jimmy of their garden find. Essie worried, “Are you sure they weren’t animal bones? Some were fresh and could be the missing pets.” They all concluded, “Why guess when we can ask Mr. Corbitt himself!”

Hello? Peter stayed at the backdoor (“In case he tries to run”) while Essie and Jimmy went around front, first collecting their heavy weapons from the car (Peter’s shotgun, Essie’s bow/arrows, and Jimmy’s tommygun and 2 grenades). Jimmy stood to the side to pound on the door, leaving Essie as the visible caller. No answer. [They failed to notice Bernard’s car wasn’t parked in the street.] Surprisingly the door was unlocked, prompting Essie to enter. [Listen] Essie heard scurrying from further inside. “Mr. Corbitt, are you home? Hello, I brought you cookies. We’re coming in, I hope you are decent.” Jimmy paused at the closet with his gun ready which encouraged Essie to notch an arrow. Nothing but coats and boots. Jimmy wedged the door closed just in case something hid inside.

Thinking of Peter at the backdoor, Essie entered the Livingroom to continue toward the kitchen. [Spot] Jimmy was the first to react to the diminutive creature that stood under the end-table next to the couch.

[Sanity check] “WHAT THE…” Jimmy quickly leveled the tommygun and fired a 3-shot burst. [Not close range thus 2 penalty die for its size and speed] He severed one leg of the table, expelled stuffing from the couch, and shattered a brick around the fireplace as the creature dodged behind the couch. Essie barely caught sight of the prey and readied her bow, “My God, was that a dog?! Here boy, we don’t want to hurt you.” She squealed when the thing appeared on the back of the couch and sprang toward her! [missed]

Peter kicked in the back-door at the sound of gunfire and rushed toward Essie’s voice. He too summarized the creature as “What the…” Jimmy flung the shotgun toward Peter (it slid across the carpet) before firing 2 volleys (of 3 rounds each). One out of the 6 bullets (10 damage) was enough to drop the creature in its tracks. Essie came forward to inspect, “The arms and legs look to be amputated human parts attached. And its ribs remind me of what we found in the garden.” [Phobia] That was enough said for Peter’s paranoia to kick in… he stepped back into the kitchen for distance. Especially when Essie mused, “Do you think there is more than one?!” Jimmy racked his tommy just in case.

They joined Peter in the kitchen. Essie checked the freezer for body parts (remembering what they found in Randolph’s apartment). The lower drawer was overstocked with fresh vegetables. Peter checked the few baskets available and confirmed no vials of drugs.

Upstairs: Essie led Peter up the stairs, while Jimmy stayed at the foot of the stairs on guard. With a window straight ahead, a door further down on their right, they turned to the immediate door on their left. A bedroom. Peter cautiously knelt to check under the bed. He bolted from the room in panic at the sight of more monster feet! Essie called out, “You woos. Jimmy, come up here and check under the bed.” Jimmy complied and soon pulled out a pair of slippers, “Ooo, scary. You know, pops always said upstairs is the scariest. Maybe we should check the basement.” They found Peter at the foot of the stairs, having composed himself.

Basement: Jimmy paused at the locked door under the stairs and put his ear to the door. “Thump, thump. Thump, thump.” Almost panic till he realized it was his own heartbeat. After unlocking the door, they descended the steps and turned right and down more steps before entering what looked like a lab: a confusing jumble of equipment used by a surgeon, chemical manufacturer, and even plant breeder. Jimmy checked out the table full of beakers and bottles, “Help me find anything flammable or herbicide to kill those greenhouse plants.” The best he could find was a bunsen-burner and fertilizer. Meanwhile, Essie inspected the mortar/pestle, stopping short of a taste-test to verify if this was where Bernard made his hallucinogenic drugs. Peter… stayed back per concerns of more amputations.

“Do you hear that?!” Essie edged closer to the table in the southeast corner. At first, she thought it a heartbeat, “Basil! He’s trapped inside!” Then she realized it was a whooshing sound. Jimmy had his tommy ready as Essie opened the sliding door (think under-sink kitchen cabinet) and discovered, “It’s an air-pump with hoses going into the wall. Mr. Corbitt, are you back there?”

Meanwhile, Peter wandered into the adjoining utility room and scrounged thru the boxes till he heard Essie’s voice. He joined them. Enough paranoia to go around as Jimmy suggested, “Should we cast Flesh-Ward just in case?” As if anyone had sanity to spare. Jimmy was ready to toss a grenade into the adjoining room to the south, till Essie objected, “Basil could be in there. Or even Bernard.” Neither was a concern for Jimmy, but he complied and stood down (but ready) as Essie opened the door.

Workroom: It looked more like carpenter tools with baskets under construction. Jimmy backed out to the utility room, leaving the others to inspect this room. Peter checked out the desk while Essie put her ear to the eastern wall to listen (where she suspected the air-hoses led). [Spot-extreme] Peter wondered why the desk was on rollers: he pulled it away from the wall and found the outline of a 3ft x 3ft door. “Jimmy, bring that hand-grenade!”

When he opened the door, they heard baby cooing sounds from within, “Mama. Hungry.” On hands-and-knees (grenade in right hand and flashlight (off) in left), Peter crawled into the dark void before standing and turning on his light.

[Sanity check] “HOLY…” Essie was already crawling in right behind him when she heard his gasp. She too saw the horrific THING in the corner! Translucent enough to see its skeletal frame, and 3 great vents on its sides with wrinkly lips that huffed and puffed, making wheezing/cooing sounds. A sphincter on top oozed foul-smelling waste products, while a wet circular mouth on its bottom implied it was a bottom-feeder. Essie quickly stood and fired an arrow that sank up to its fletchings in the ‘overcooked pudding’ mass with 15 chubby arms while propelled on 10 stubby legs (all obviously attached amputations). “Ow, that hurt. Me not like food.”

Outside the secret room, Jimmy could only ask, “Whatta ya see?!” Obviously rattled, without thinking it through, Peter pulled the pin on the grenade and tossed it at the 8ft tall monstrosity. It bounced off the ‘overcooked pudding’ mass, back at their own feet! Essie instinctively thought to pick it up to throw it herself, before kicking it towards the monster, “RUN!” Really? Peter dove thru the secret opening while Essie dove toward the eastern corner. [extreme Luck that the grenade’s timer was long] “KA-BOOM!” The concussion helped push Peter out of the room; it propelled Essie into the far wall.

Daadee: Peter was already on his knees, crawling back in, “ESSIE!” He ignored the cloud of dust and broken plaster and bricks to his left as he rushed to the east corner where he found her crumpled but alive. She totally deaf from the enclosed explosion. No, she couldn’t hear the pained cooing of the baby… that survived a point-blank grenade! It strode out of the cloud towards them. And that’s when they saw light over the monster’s (shoulder?!) and saw Bernard looking in (from another secret panel at the stair landing) with a panicked face, “BABY?! Are you OK?! NO!!! Don’t hurt him! Fa-ta-yltol-ftagn.”

Meanwhile, as Jimmy searched the Utility room, he heard/felt the grenade explosion. He rushed south into the adjoining room he hoped connected to the secret room his allies explored. He only found a laundry room. But in his search, he also heard the plea of Mr. Corbitt.

He rushed at the man with his knife drawn, knife-to-face, “What the hell is going on?!” But Bernard was indefinitely insane and his only thoughts, “BABY!”

Peter and Essie gasped at ‘baby’, now 12ft tall and larger. [Bernard had cast Call Ramasekva which infused the thing with unholy life.] Peter almost threw Essie through the small opening so he too could exit. Except something grabbed his leg. Peter wheeled about with his shotgun and fired both barrels… “BOOM, BOOM.” [point-blank bonus, plus size 3 bonus = regular and extreme] The first blast carved a hole in its side, the second blast eviscerated the thing. All could hear Bernard screaming in agony. And as they regrouped at the stair landing, they could hear the wail of approaching police sirens. Peter handed his shotgun to Jimmy, “You best get outta here with our weapons. I’ll handle the police.”

EPILOGUE

Peter handed over a handcuffed Bernard who was soon the newest resident of the Arkham Sanitorium.

The police listened to Peter and Essie’s story about a drug-crazed Randolph who sacrificed pets for his Satan-worship. And of Mr. Corbitt’s own insane practices. Not that they really believed all that nonsense. Till only one police officer rushed from the greenhouse to make a mad call to station, “Send backup! O’Reilly is down!” The newspaper only said he was killed in the line of duty. Peter gathered from inside sources (the desk sergeant) that O’Reilly collapsed in the greenhouse after collecting plant specimens as evidence. “While his partner only said he saw him collapse, the coroner described strange bite wounds and missing chunks of flesh.”

Bobby knocked on Essie’s door with excitement as he held Basil, “He’s going to be a dad. Mrs. Wallace found him in their house, ‘playing’ with Miss Hart’s dog, Puddles.” He was visiting her all this time! I wonder if Miss Hart will let me have one of the puppies? When the time comes, would you ask for me?”

Essie, Peter, and Jimmy stood on her back porch watching the parade of hazmat-suited men wheel barrels full of evidence from Barnard’s garden. And firetrucks stood by as the greenhouse was torched. The Corbitt house was bulldozed to the ground as a precaution.

BACKGROUND

Bernard is an indefinitely-insane (split-personality and selective amnesia) servant of Yog-Sothoth, and has been these past 14 years since witnessing the terrible death of his father on a windy mountaintop in India at the hands of Ramasekva (multi-limbed manifestation of Yog). Upon his return to the states, he soon married (upon his master’s approval) Lynn. Shortly thereafter, his master took Bernard’s form and mated with Lynn.

7 months later she died in childbirth, producing one stillborn and another grotesque twin abomination. For 10 years now, Bernard has been tending to the child, surgically and magically appending arms/legs/organs per his master’s unfathomable demands. The man-child grows at a progressively increasing rate that demands uncooked flesh. Which necessitated an arrangement with Randolph to acquire from his hospital (in exchange for drugs and money).

Ten years have passed and the man-child will soon be ready to become the Bridge “for the Opening of the Way” to welcome Ramasekva into the world.

The diminutive scampering woman-thing was but another failed experiment as Bernard worked on his baby. All those parts buried in the garden (as fertilizer) were other failed experiments.
